Course Objectives

At the completion of the course, participant will be able to

  • Conduct an Infection Prevention and Control annual program assessment

  • Develop a comprehensive and practical policy and protocol on Enhanced Standard Precautions

  • Develop a practical collaborative Antibiotic Stewardship Program

Course Content

Infection Prevention and Control Annual Program Assessment

  • Conduct an Infection Prevention and Control program evaluation

  • Perform an infection control risk assessment on your facility

  • Develop infection control goals for the following year

Understand what is involved in performing a program assessment and apply those principles discussed in creating an individual facility program assessment 

De-mystifying Enhanced Standard Precautions (ESP)

  • Understand the new CDPH Enhanced Standard Precautions

  • Review practical application of this guideline

Create an ESP policy for your facility that incorporates the components of this public health advisory


Antibiotic Stewardship

  • Review the role of the infection preventionist, licensed nurse and pharmacist in the facility's Antibiotic Stewardship Program

  • Understand the relationship between McGeer and Loeb criteria

  • How to incorporate Loeb Criteria into your Antibiotic Stewardship Program

Do a deep dive into creating a comprehensive Antibiotic Stewardship Program for your facility that involves the collaboration of nursing, pharmacy, infection prevention, and physicians

In-Person Classroom Learning

Persons selecting this option will attend a live one-day in-person class. Participants must attend the entire conference for full continuing education credits. Attendance at this venue offers the participants an opportunity to interact directly with the course faculty.
